Military issues are under continuous transformation, which apply to a nature and scope of military conflicts but also a role of military strategy concerning a security of states and regions. Among the experts it is possible to observe various approaches to significance and real impact of armed forces in building and maintaining the security process. However, such a variety of approaches applies also to a possible role of armed forces in generating military threats. In the past, the armed forces used to be the main tool of a security policy. There were various ways to use the armed forces then. In the post World War II period, during the Cold War, the armed constituted very important factor. Afterwards, in the last decade of the 20th Century and the first decade of the 21st Century, armed forces were used mostly in crisis response operations, peace keeping operations and in small scale (local level) military conflicts. Now the meaning of armed forces has been redefined, as well as the character of military threats. The role of political-military alliances and the role of military activities seem to increase again. Is it a constant trend?
